One of Australia’s premier and most spectacular recreational cycling events returns to the Surf Coast on April 29 with registrations upwards of more than 3,000 cyclists.

The Great Ocean and Otway Classic Ride is on its way back to the region, with racing starting and finishing in Torquay, offering three separate courses for participants.

Cyclists can challenge themselves on the 60km Social Ride for beginners, the 145km Classic Ride for riders who want to tackle the original course or the 204km Amy’s Ride for experienced cyclists.

“In 2023 we are looking forward to more riders going longer, with our largest 204km group ever with 500 riders,” O2 Events director Jordan O’Neill said.

“There are great numbers again in the 145km and 60km rides which will see about 3,500 riders on the road on April 29.

Riders will again get the chance to soak up the breathtaking coastal scenery of the Great Ocean Road along one of Australia’s most famous stretches of coastline and explore the coastal and Otway towns along the way.

Cyclists will ride through Moriac, Deans Marsh, Skenes Creek and Lorne before returning to Torquay.

Inland roads will be closed for this event to allow the Great Ocean Road between Skenes Creek and Torquay to remain open in both directions, with speed reductions in place for the safety of cyclists and vehicles.

“The visitation and environmental benefits of cycling are large for the region, and it is a great partnership with the Surf Coast Shire to deliver the Great Ocean & Otway Classic every year.”

The ride continues to fundraise and support the Amy Gillet Foundation, educating and advocating for safe cycling.

All participants are encouraged to fundraise for this cause ahead of the event.
