Aussies have the edge

October 2025 may seem a long way up the road, but Aussie cyclists are already planning to book their place at the world’s premier amateur race – which, next year, will be right on our doorstep.

The 2025 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships are heading to Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, and Australian riders have the advantage to qualify at home soil at the 2024 Amy’s Great Ocean Road Gran Fondo, which is being held this spring, on September 15.

To punch your ticket to Gran Fondo Worlds, you must finish in the top 25% of your age group in a UCI Gran Fondo World Series event.

Amy’s Gran Fondo will take on the same course as the 2025 Worlds, giving you the opportunity to explore the beautiful Great Ocean Road, Otway Ranges and all the region has to offer while preparing yourself for next year’s world titles.

At Worlds, the champions in each age group are awarded with the coveted rainbow jersey.

Australian riders have always shone on this stage: Sydney’s John Horsburgh won a silver medal last year in Glasgow, for example, while Roger Cull and Alan Nelson conquered snow and ice in Sarajevo back in 2021.

Next year’s Worlds will feature the road race and individual time trial based in Lorne, and a team criterium on Geelong’s waterfront. The event will take place from October 17–19, 2025.

Early bird pricing ends on June 12, and Aus Cycling members receive a $10 discount.
