Each year, a limited number of major events require changed traffic conditions. This can include full or partial road closures for on-road events and/or diversions to assist with traffic flow for large scale events such as the Rip Curl Pro.
Road closures require the approval of multiple agencies, including Council, Regional Roads Victoria (Department of Transport) and Victoria Police.
Part of our commitment to minimising the impact on our residents and local business operators, is to give as much notification as possible, by working with event organisers to ensure they are well informed and aware of any changed traffic conditions.

The 2024 Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach is the longest running event of the World Surf League’s Championship Tour, and this will be its’ 61st year.
Changed Traffic Conditions
This year’s event window is from Tuesday 26 March to Friday 5 April. To assist with traffic management during the Rip Curl Pro, the following changed road traffic conditions will apply from Monday 25 March to Friday 5 April.
Entry into Bells Beach Reserve will be restricted to fee paying patrons from 7am – 5pm during the event window. Patrons are requested to travel to the event along Bells Blvd from Great Ocean Road and exit along Jarosite Road directly to Great Ocean Road. Please drive carefully and observe the changed speed restrictions along Great Ocean Road, Bells Beach Road and Jarosite Road.
Free Entry 3228 Residents
World Surf League is once again offering free entry to postcode 3228 residents. Please show identification at the ticket office daily to receive a wristband.
