Amy’s Great Ocean Road Gran Fondo is set to return on 15th of September 2024. Amy’s Great Ocean Road Gran Fondo is an internationally recognised, world-class event, held on fully closed roads in one of the most picturesque destinations on the planet – the Great Ocean Road.

On Sunday 15 September, more than 5,000 bike riders and their families and friends will visit the region of the Great Ocean Road and Otway Ranges as part of the Amy’s Great Ocean Road Gran Fondo.

The annual event is held in memory of Australian cyclist Amy Gillett, who tragically lost her life in a training ride in Germany in 2005 when hit by a car. The event honours Amy Gillett’s legacy by aiming to reduce fatalities and injuries among cyclists through increased safety awareness and education. It features cycling safety research, advocacy initiatives, educational campaigns and programs.

Changed Traffic Conditions

Each year, a limited number of major events require changed traffic conditions. This can include full or partial road closures for on-road events and/or diversions to assist with traffic flow for large scale events such as the Rip Curl Pro.

Road closures require the approval of multiple agencies, including Council, Regional Roads Victoria (Department of Transport) and Victoria Police.

Part of our commitment to minimising the impact on our residents and local business operators, is to give as much notification as possible, by working with event organisers to ensure they are well informed and aware of any changed traffic conditions.

Notification of changed traffic conditions can include:

  • Letters to residents along the event route
  • Advance notification signage placed along the event route
  • Banner alert on this Surf Coast Events website
  • Electronic VMS signage placed along the event route
  • Advertisements in local papers
  • Community information sessions
