Rising Stars announced for 2024
The Surf Coast Shire has recognised six up and coming surfers for their efforts as part of this year’s 2024 Gail Couper and Wayne Lynch Surf Coast Rising Stars Surfing Awards.
The awards have been announced annually since 2017 by council to highlight the young surfing talent under 18-years-old on our waves, since the inaugural awards were held in 2017.
This year’s Rising Stars are:
Female
• Juliet Muscroft
• Chloe Muscroft
• Cedar Davie
Male
• Remy Filer
• Jack Lindsay
• Jarvis Barrow
The recipients of this year’s Rising Stars Awards were officially announced on Monday, March 25 one day ahead of the start of the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach’s event waiting period at the awards’ official ceremony.
The ceremony, which forms part of the Welcome Event, creates an abundance of excitement for young surfers as they prepare to watch their idols hit the waves on their home break.
Surf Coast Shire mayor Liz Pattison said the Rising Stars Awards are an opportunity for our local rising surfing stars to rub shoulders with some of the sport’s biggest names.
“This year we have two sisters, Juliet and Chloe Muscroft, which is exciting, as well as other talented young locals who are achieving impressive results."
“Some of our past recipients are doing amazing things, including India Robinson who is a current World Tour competitor in the World Surf League.
“And Xavier Huxtable, who defeated the current world number one in round three of last year’s Rip Curl Pro.
“These awards are a wonderful way to recognise upcoming talent and continue to encourage and support young surfers across the Surf Coast as they take on the surfing world.”
A mix of Jan Juc and Torquay residents, most of the recipients have been on the water for more than or close to a decade.
Cedar Davie has been surfing the region’s breaks for over nine years, and said there was an endless list of things she loves about surfing.
“I just love catching the best waves and hanging about with mates, it really gives me a lot of joy."
“Stephanie Gilmore is a surfer I really look up to, India Robinson too will be one I’ll be watching for the locals.”
Other surfers the recipients are excited to see compete at the Rip Curl Pro include Ethan Ewing, Molly Picklum, Tyler Wright, Griffin Colapinto, Sally Fitzgibbons, and Jack Robinson.
