Active residents and visitors are preparing to brave the elements on the Surf Coast as part of this year’s Anglesea Trail Running Series race next month.
Now in its 15th year, the Anglesea Trail Running Series has been a staple of the running calendar across the region for a decade and a half and will again take place on July 7.
The race is conducted by Torquay event management company Rapid Ascent, led by event director Sam Maffett, and offers participants a distinctive trail running experience for all runners and all abilities.
“By providing a welcoming environment, food, coffee and family activities; and showcasing little-known trails – we’ve pulled together all the good bits that make trail running incredibly rewarding.”
Participants are able to choose from an array of events options as part of the event, including the super-long 29km course, a 16km course, as well as 7.5km and Friendly-4km races. Entries will remain open online until race morning.
Starting on the white sand of Anglesea Main Beach, the courses explore the region’s coastal bushland, clifftop trails and sandy beaches.
Mr Maffett said local competitors have already registered and can look forward to running on trails they would not normally have known about or used themselves;
“Wesley Bond, 6, of Torquay will be running the Friendly 4km with mum Melinda for a wonderful family morning on the trails together, Sarah Park of Anglesea will be competing in the 16km event and is often seen running the local trails with her passion for adventure leading her to enter the race, and Evelyn Whitelaw from Jan Juc is running the 8km short course race, excited by her return to trail running with a baby and toddler set to cheer from the sidelines.
