Summer events

Did you know that the Surf Coast Shire’s population swells to about 100,000 people at its peak over summer? This includes residents, visitors, and people attending events or coming for a day trip.

For thousands of these people, it wouldn’t be summer on the Surf Coast without participating in a local surf lifesaving event.

There’s the Anglesea Roo Run (27 December) and Rock2Ramp Ocean Swim (28 December) in Anglesea, the Danger Ocean Swim Series (6 January) and Jim Wall Classic (7 January) in Torquay, Tim Gates Classic Fun Run (7 January) in Fairhaven, and the Lorne Mountain to Surf (12 January) and Pier to Pub (13 January).

The best thing about these popular events is that they are organised by various local surf lifesaving clubs and raise funds for equipment and projects – ultimately helping to keep people safe on our beaches.

This Summer remember: always swim between the flags, as ocean conditions change regularly. Surf life saving services operate in Surf Coast Shire from November through to late February. For all patrolled details, visit Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority and Life Saving Victoria .
