The Trail Running Series will deliver a refreshed format for 2023 with a range of options and new features on the program as it heads into its’ 13th year.
The Series revolutionised trail running in Australia by first taking it to the masses in 2012 and continues to lead the way as one of Australia’s most popular trail running events.
This years entries are now open online with organisers Rapid Ascent inviting all runners to come and escape to the trails this winter.
“Too often we see these sorts of races come and go – but that’s what makes the Trail Running Series stand-out – we are heading into its 13th year and it’s the competitors, supporters and followers that really keep us going,” added Maffett.
Key features include the selection of 3 magnificent wilderness locations within a 1 hour drive of Melbourne; with each event offering short, medium and long course options including even longer kilometres for die-hard runners.
A new super-social handicap format has also been conceived for Race 3 at Silvan where all runners start at different times according to their pace so that everyone finishes at the same time.
“Standard races mean we all start together but finish spread apart and disparate – well we’re turning that on its head at Silvan because we want to finish the Series all together, with all runners descending on the finish line in unison as a true celebration of trail,” said Maffett.
The now three-race format will begin with Race 1 in Plenty Gorge, Victoria, on Sunday 4 June; Race 2 at Anglesea on Sunday 9 July with the inclusion of the Friendly 4km; and Race 3 the handicap format and Series Finale is set for Sunday 6 August at Silvan in the Dandenong Ranges.
Competitors will run on little-known trails, down fun single tracks that pass through scenic landscapes of towering gum trees, trickling creeks, fern-lined valleys and native wildlife – all in a welcoming event environment.
Over the years, the Series has built a dedicated following of like-minded runners;
“The Series gets me out of bed during the cold trail running season, and onto beautiful single tracks with an awesome and earthy group of fellow trail runners.” – Malcolm, 2022 participant.
“I enjoy trail running as it’s like free outdoor therapy and there’s nothing like the fresh air to make you feel good!” – Tamas, 2022 Series Runner
“The Trail Running Series has taken me to parts of Victoria I would not have had the confidence to explore on my own. Fellow runners always have a kind word when passing by. Do it! You won’t regret it!” – Marcus, 2022 Series Runner.
Rapid Ascent encourages interested participants to load up their cars and bring the tribe to rejoice the fresh air and freedom that running with friends provides.
Competitors can enter all three races for a range of series benefits, or choose just the ones that suit them.
