Last November, Meadow announced its return to the iconic Bambra Bowl for the ninth chapter of the Victorian surf coast festival, with international headliner Kurt Vile and his band The Violators, featuring London’s post punk revivalists Black Midi and a local line-up of Jen Cloher, Kučka, Cash Savage & The Last Drinks, Big Scary, Agung Mango and many more. Joining the abundant homegrown bill, Meadow is revealing their final line-up with new artists, DJs and winner of Forte’s opening band competition.
The 2023 Meadow lineup additions feature poet, performer, and 30/70 vocalist Allysha Joy, dance music master Our Carlson, and psychedelic popsters Sunfruits back from touring across Aotearoa (NZ). Join composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist and DJ Setwun and his band The Solstranauts hailing from the underground soul-jazz scene of Eora (Sydney), and alternative rapper and beatmaker Chef Chung with Melbourne upstarts delivering raw and intense surf and garage rock, The Bloody Norah’s, completing the bill. Catch curated sets filling the spaces between performances from part-time disk jockey & full time host of PBS Breakfast Spread’s Milo Eastwood, mixes from Barry Sunset and Windtunnel, or tracks from 3RRR Banksia presenter Vanessa Morris & the revered host of Brekstacy, on Skylab radio, Nick Saw. Taking out Meadow and Forte’s annual opening band competition, Tamara & The Dreams will take their catchy dream pop born in bedrooms and grown in bandrooms to the festival stage on Friday afternoon to open the festival proceedings.
The team behind Meadow pride themselves on their local and sustainable approach to operating a festival. In this endeavour their 2023 event will once again be run in close collaboration with Victorian sustainability organisation B-alternative and all proceeds from car passes will continue to support the replanting of native trees and shrubs across the festival site and surrounding areas (via East Otway Landcare). Hundreds of baby trees from the 2020 plantings and onwards will start to mature in Autumn as the festival kicks off. B-Alternative is a social enterprise that helps organisations eradicate waste by offering sustainable alternatives like fully recyclable plates and crockery, no single use of food and drink service items, and streamed recycling to generate new compost.
